Casting is the ultimate weapon for casting large lures or placing your lure with pinpoint precision. Unlike spinning, the reel sits on top of the rod, allowing you to hold it "in hand" for greater comfort, with your thumb close to the spool for optimal line control. Some models feature electronic spool rotation management to reduce the risk of backlash.

Which casting reel to choose?

Rod balance

Choose a reel suited to your rod, meaning a reel that will balance the rod, but also one that will allow you to cast the lures intended for the rod's power rating.

Bearings

For a casting reel, the crucial point is the spool's rotation capacity. The smoother this rotation and the lower the resistance to rotation, the farther you will be able to cast and with lighter lure weights. You should therefore pay close attention to the number and quality of the bearings in the reel.

The ratio

Another important point is the retrieve ratio. A standard ratio is 1:7.1, meaning 75-80cm of line retrieved per handle turn. You should therefore choose the ratio of your casting reel based on the fishing techniques you want to use.
