Casting / baitcasting reels for lure fishing and other techniques

Casting is the ultimate weapon for casting large lures or placing your lure with pinpoint precision. Unlike spinning, the reel sits on top of the rod, allowing you to hold it "in hand" for greater comfort, with your thumb close to the spool for optimal line control. Some models feature electronic spool rotation management to reduce the risk of backlash.

For those who want to take the plunge and acquire a bait finesse / BFS reel, or for those who want to cast large, very large lures — big bait reels — we also have numerous models for you. And for nomadic anglers who love travel or roving fishing sessions, there is also a whole selection of travel rods especially for you.

Our team of enthusiasts' selection

- Megabass,
- Daiwa,
- Abu Garcia,
- Shimano,
- Lews,
- Savage Gear,
- And many other major brands

You also have a whole selection of rod + reel combos or, if you want to build your dream combo, a vast choice of casting rods ranging from big bait to bait finesse.

Which casting reel to choose?

Rod balance

Choose a reel suited to your rod, meaning a reel that will balance the rod, but also one that will allow you to cast the lures intended for the rod's power rating.

Bearings

For a casting reel, the crucial point is the spool's rotation capacity. The smoother this rotation and the lower the resistance to rotation, the farther you will be able to cast and with lighter lure weights. You should therefore pay close attention to the number and quality of the bearings in the reel.

The ratio

Another important point is the retrieve ratio. A standard ratio is 1:7.1, meaning 75-80cm of line retrieved per handle turn. You should therefore choose the ratio of your casting reel based on the fishing techniques you want to use.

If you have any questions about choosing a rod, the appropriate rigs for your fishing area, or the type of line (braid, monofilament, fluorocarbon) to use on your reel, please do not hesitate to contact us via our website, by phone, or by visiting us in person at our Ardent Pêche store.
